Cyber Wellness

With Web 2.0 and social media tools, the ways children learn and play have changed tremendously. This has brought about a positive impact, such as harnessing technology to do good, as well as negative ones, such as excessive Internet use and cyber bullying.

Since 2008, MOE has implemented a structured Cyber Wellness education programme in schools so that children learn to stay safe online, and be respectful and responsible users of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Parents can support this effort by reinforcing Cyber Wellness at home. We have prepared guides and resources that parents can use to cultivate positive digital habits in their children. Keep scrolling to find out more!

In this issue, you will find:

  • Cyber Wellness Resources for Parents

What is Cyber Wellness Education?

Cyber Wellness (CW) refers to the positive well-being of Internet users. It involves an understanding of online behaviour and being aware of how to protect oneself in cyberspace. The focus of CW in our schools is to help children navigate cyberspace, respectfully, safely and responsibly. They should also be a positive peer influence by using technology to enhance collaboration, learning and productivity, as well as advocate the positive use of technology.

Cyber Wellness Resources

Parents can boost schools’ efforts in promoting Cyber Wellness by setting a good example when using technology at home and guiding their children on how to navigate cyberspace respectfully, safely and responsibly. Here are some ways that parents can ensure that their children stay safe and have positive experiences online:

MOE has also developed other CW resources for parents, such as guides and tips related to ‘Scams’ and ‘Danger with Cyber Contacts’, as well as C-Quest, a resource to help parents talk about CW with their children.  You can access all these resources on MOE’s ICT Connection website  here .
